CAP: Up to 30cm in diameter. Tan to pale brown starting convex becoming flattened with age and developing a cracked surface. STIPE: The stipe is robust and slightly club shaped. The pale cream background is overlain with a thick dark brown reticulation that stops just short of the pale apex. GILLS/PORES: Pores are whitish becoming a distinct shade of pink with age. Bruises brownish when handled. FLESH: Pale and staining light pink. Tastes very bitter. Aroma unpleasant. SPORES: Pinkish and fusiform to subfusiform. Smooth. HABITAT: Coniferous or deciduous woodland. SEASON: Occasional.  Summer to late autumn. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
